Crystal Rig IV Wind Farm Officially Opened by Energy Minister as New Report Highlights £5 Million Local Economic Impact

Dunbar, Scotland, 3 September 2026 – Fred. Olsen Renewables officially inaugurated Crystal Rig IV Wind Farm, marking the completion of its flagship onshore renewable energy project in Southeast Scotland.

The event brought together government representatives, industry leaders, community stakeholders, supply chain partners, and project teams to celebrate the achievement and the project's contribution to Scotland's clean energy future. Crystal Rig IV consists of 11 turbines, 4 of which reach up to 200m tip height.

With 49 MW of renewable energy capacity, the wind farm will generate enough clean electricity to power almost 50,000 homes each year. The wind farm builds on the long-established Crystal Rig cluster and strengthens Scotland's contribution to the UK's renewable electricity generation ambitions.

Stephen Gethins MSP, Minister for Europe, External Affairs and Energy, led the inauguration, joined by representatives from Fred. Olsen Renewables and project partner Hvitsten in officially unveiling the commemorative plaque.

The event also marked the launch of the Crystal Rig IV Supply Chain Impact Report. The report establishes that the wind farm's construction generated more than £5 million in expenditure in South East Scotland, supporting local businesses, jobs and economic activity across the region while delivering wider benefits across Scotland and the UK.

“Scotland can and must see the benefit of our ample natural resources. Onshore wind is one of the cheapest forms of new energy generation we can build, and projects like this are vital to our just transition.”
